Have They All Gone Crazy?

Taking a cue from this article, I’m forced to stop and wonder what Big Business is thinking?

At what point did Big Business decide it made more sense to foolishly cling to an old-world business model than to start looking for what comes next? Every time I hear the RIAA is suing another poor college student or refusing to at least consider decently priced, DRM-free music, I’m left completely befuddled.

The same goes for the oil companies. It’s clear that oil-based fuels are not viable going forward, and yet they seem to refuse to look into how they can leverage the green energy movement to make themselves absurdly profitable.

Historically (at least for the music/movie industry), every time the technology has changed to allow for a different method of consumption, Big Business has pushed back. And every time that new technology has produced record profits for them. Why don’t they see this latest move to online distribution and green energy as a way to REMAIN profitable, not as a threat to their bottom line?
