Despite the Web, Americans Remain Woefully... →
No wonder this country is going to Hell in a hand-basket: you can’t change the things about which you know nothing.
If America withdraws from Iraq, it will force Iran to spend massive amounts of...

Nintendo Opens Wii to Indy Developers →
Coming to a Wii near you in “early 2008.” I cannot wait to see the kind of stuff the indie devs put out there.
On a Need-Based Work Week...
The past week of work has been an interesting one: I’m on team that’s slightly behind schedule with plenty to do. However, numerous times in the past week I’ve found myself at with no work to do, and I typically hit a stand still like this sometime around 2pm. So what’s an employee to do when this happens that late in the workday? Well, my first instinct was to hang around...

Bet you aren't as smart as you think. →
Apparently, this site tells me I’m “smarter than 90.52% of you fools.” I missed two…now if it would only tell me which two I missed….

Americans who believe Saddam-9/11 tie rises to 41... →
If this number is correct, then this digg commenter said it best: “This country is doomed!! When 41% of the country is this stupid we no longer need enemies!! Its no longer even worth getting angry about!!”
Favorite New Trick...
…is to find new music by simply using Google. A simple search of intitle:”index of” plus the band name, album name or song name should bring back at least one or two results. Fastest way to find music ever, and also, clearly, my favorite new trick. Here’s a quick example of searching for albums by the Black Keys.

I truly think Jon Hicks is on to something here, and I’m BAFFLED someone hasn’t already put one of these out. Perhaps I should use this as my project with which I learn Cocoa….
They Won't Sell AO-rated games?! →
Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think we should be handing out free copies of the game to children, but I also don’t think it’s Nintendo or Sony’s place to say the game isn’t allowed on their console. Why not let the market decide what games people want to play, or better yet, why not let parents be parents and make their own decisions about what their kids can...
Tool Concert Recap
Before last night, I had never seen Tool in concert before, although I’d heard nothing but superlative things about their concerts in the past. So when the opportunity arose to see them, I took it. And I was not disappointed. Their show is somewhat difficult to describe, beginning with the stage setup: the lead singer hangs back on stage by the drummer and is never directly lit, so the...
Desktop Tower Defense 1.5 Released! →
Crap, now I’m off the wagon….. Update: TechCrunch has a nice article detailing the changes in 1.5 and it includes an almost spot-on review of what the changes mean to the player. I’ve played it a few times so far, and it’s notably more difficult than before (for better or worse, I’m still not sure).
Four hours upfront and then reevaluate →
In general, I tend to think that 37Signals just “gets it,” while the company I work for has a problem of spending roughly 5 person-months upfront without ever re-evaluating. And where does that get them? In the time I’ve been there, I have yet to see it get them anywhere other than into a huge mess…
Firstborn children are the cleverest →
Although the article goes on to say that the difference is mostly social, not biological, but since I’m a first born, I’m going to ignore that… ;)

The "true" iPhone SDK: are we too optimistic? →
I think the author’s friend is spot-on. With the state of web apps these days (ESPECIALLY with the advent of Google Gears), I don’t see why a web-based SDK is such a bad thing.

Thoughts on the Keynote
So by this point, almost everyone has either seen or heard about the Worst Keynote Ever. And, to be fair, it was a pretty lackluster keynote when compared with the other rockstar keynotes His Jobness has given. I’ve spent the last week or so reading the commentary and mulling over everything, but it wasn’t until this afternoon that I finally got around to watching the keynote. And...

The Illusion of Safety →
Thank God the TSA detained this mother and her 19-month old child. I don’t know about you, but I certainly feel safer knowing the child’s sippy-cup of water isn’t a deadly explosive.
This kind of thing is just out of control over here. Fuck it, I’m moving to Canada.

On the iPhone and Web Apps
Yesterday Steve Jobs announced the iPhone “SDK,” and developers everywhere turned crimson with rage. And I can completely understand why: third-party developers are Apple’s bread and butter. Sure, Apple’s iApps are great (and may well be the reason you purchased a Mac in the first place), but what ultimately shines on the platform, in my opinion, is what comes from the...
